Supervision with Inés Astudillo

Accredited Practising Dietitian

Clinical Supervision & Support

I welcome Dietitians and other health professionals seeking Supervision of their professional practice, especially those with a special interest in paediatric nutrition, feeding challenges in children and adolescents, neurodivergent kids with feeding differences, and kids with disability.

Heart-centred work has always been at the core of my professional life, and I bring those values to Supervision. I particularly love supporting early and mid-career dietitians to increase their confidence in supporting children and families with feeding concerns.

Inés Astudillo, Accredited Practising Dietitian with Kids Dig Food

As a clinical supervisor, my key values are:

  • Compassion and care
  • Creating an environment of mutual learning and respect
  • Supervisee wellbeing and growth
  • A space to decompress and be lifted up
  • Non-judgement

My clinical area of expertise is in paediatric feeding challenges, and in the last 10 years I have become skilled in working with children with extreme feeding concerns and their families. Children with Autism, ADHD, sensory feeding challenges, ARFID, and children with weight concerns make up most of my clinical caseload. I am fascinated by the intersection of parental feeding experiences and relationship with food, and how that influences how parents and caregivers feed children.

I am particularly passionate about supporting grown-ups (parents, carers and early childhood educators) to positively and joyfully connect or reconnect with food and eating and share this with the children in their care. I love to support parents, carers, families and educators to make decisions about nutrition and health from a place of care and consideration rather than control. I have also developed strong skills in workshop and webinar facilitation despite being a self-confessed introvert at heart, and have presented hundreds of workshops, education and training for early childhood settings, schools, organisations and individuals both online and in-person in my areas of expertise.

I believe that ALL bodies are amazing, and I apply a weight-neutral approach in supporting kids to grow into the bodies that are right for them.

My approach to Dietetics and Nutrition care is grounded in Responsive Feeding as outlined by Rowell, Wong, Cormack and Moreland et al and Ellyn Satter’s Division of Responsibility in Feeding & Eating Competence models.

I am committed to providing individualised and family-centred care that is neurodiversity affirming and trauma-informed.

I see myself as a lifelong learner and regularly undertake professional development in these and other areas to continually improve my care to clients.

Background

My nutrition career commenced in 1997 upon graduating from Queensland University of Technology with a Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics. In 2012 I followed my heart to create Kids Dig Food®, a nutrition and dietetics private practice, after many years as a hospital-based clinical dietitian, community dietitian and community nutritionist.

Today, I enjoy leading a small (and amazing) team of passionate Dietitians within my business, and love the variety and challenge that being a Director of a growing health business provides. Not only does Kids Dig Food® provide clinical services, but I draw on my community nutrition experience to provide workshops, education and training in a variety of settings. In my private practice work, I see first-hand the difference that connection makes to feeding and eating.

Some of my previous roles that inform my practice today include:

  • Hospital ward and outpatient Dietitian: at tertiary hospitals in Australia and the UK
  • Community Dietitian: establishment of a mobile Community Dietetics Home and Community Care service
  • Community Nutritionist: leading project initiatives as diverse as breastfeeding promotion; feeding practices in early childhood education settings; food security; and also working collaboratively with an amazing Aboriginal Nutrition Worker from whom I learned so much.
